Bank Scams

A bank scam starts with someone contacting you claiming to be from your bank.  They will say they have seen some suspicious activity and they are investigating the matter.  The purpose of this is for them to gain access to your bank account.  These people will either have you install malicious software or have you open a command prompt.  If they gain access to your PC with software they have you download they with then open up a Command Prompt and run commands like NETSTAT or TREE.

  • Netstat or NETWORK STATUS is a command to show all your network connections.  This is a common program used by them to say that you have been HACKED and they need to help you stop the hackers from taking your money which is what they are trying to do.

  • Tree command is a command that will show all the files on your PC.  One thing they will do is while the tree command is running is Paste a script so that at the end of the Tree listing it will show fake details.

  • This COMMAND PROMPT may also later be used to be a "Secure Server connection to their Bank Server"

One of their tactics is to say that they need to move your money from your bank account to a secure account they created for you in your name.

They will then have you remove your money (maybe not all of it) and then have you go to a "special atm" which in fact is a Bitcoin ATM to deposit the funds.  Which they will quickly move those funds out of the wallet they created for you.

NEVER REMOVE MONEY FROM YOUR BANK ACCOUNT OR DO A WIRE TRANSFER.

In this case the best course of action would be to Hang up from this person and reach out to your bank directly via their phone numbers and alert them you were contacted by someone claiming to be from the Bank and see if their accusations are true.
