Popup/Tech Scams
These two scams are a very common one. In some cases triggered by accident either by clicking on the wrong link or via Email.
In the case of a Popup Scam, most people do not realize that in some cases they can close the web browser and start over. Or that in some cases they need to restart the PC. Usually it will say that your PC is infected with a virus(s) and needs to be cleaned. The victim will call the 800 number that is usually provided and the person on the other end will attempt to gain access to the victims computer. Then they in some cases will try to sell the victim a "fake" antivirus program.
In other instances this is started via an Email claiming to be from Microsoft that there is an issue with your Windows Operating System in which "Microsoft" was contacted by your PC about the issue. They will then attempt to connect to your PC via a program that allows remote access to your PC.
In either instance if they gain access to the PC they will attempt to sell programs or services that are not needed and will not fix the problem. If you do believe your computer might be affected by viruses or other problems we would recommend taking your PC to a local Qualified Computer repair facility to have your system checked.
